Story: Church Rules
|
A priest at a parochial school, wanting to point out the proper behavior for church, was trying to elicit from the youngsters rules that their parents might give before taking them to a nice restaurant. “Don’t play with your food,” one second-grader cited. “Don’t be loud,” said another, and so on. “And what rules do your parents give you before you go out to eat?” the priest inquired of one little boy. Without batting an eye, the child replied, “They always say ‘Order something cheap’.’”

Prayer
|
Jesus, we don’t necessarily have to talk about rules or norms of behavior in church, but we can and should talk about what we should do when we are there in church.
When we enter church the first thing we should be mindful of is that this really is your house. You live there! As soon as we enter the church we should make an act of faith. We should be immediately aware that we are entering your house because you are present there. Please, Jesus, help us to remember this as we make the Sign of the Cross with holy water and when we enter our pew with a genuflection or a simple bow. Jesus, we want to thank you for making your home in our churches.
Amen
